The Bawu is a flute that is played horizontally like the Dizi. It is actually a free reed instrument, hence there is no dimo or the need to blow a stream of air skillfully across the blow hole. You just cover the whole mouthpiece with your mouth and blow into it.
Originating from Yunnan, it sounds very similar to the Hulusi. One of the recent notable use of the Bawu in pop music is in the ending of Jay Chow's 'Ju Hua Tai (菊花台)'.
We carry very good quality bawus by Beijing maker Zhang Jin Jun. If you need custom keys, please feel free to email us at email@example.com.
